How Parlay Odds Are Calculated
A parlay combines multiple bets into one wager that only pays out if every leg wins. To find the combined odds, convert each leg's American odds to decimal odds, multiply them together, then multiply by your stake. The calculator above does this instantly, but the formula behind it is simple.
Decimal conversion: positive odds → (odds ÷ 100) + 1. Negative odds → (100 ÷ odds, ignoring the minus sign) + 1. Multiply the decimal odds of every leg together to get your combined decimal odds, then multiply by your stake for the total payout.
Example: two legs at -110 each convert to 1.91 decimal odds apiece. 1.91 × 1.91 = 3.65. A $100 stake returns $364.64 — a $264.64 profit — even though each leg individually was close to a coin flip.
Why Parlays Are Harder to Win Than Straight Bets
Every added leg multiplies your risk, not just your potential payout. Two legs at a true 60% win probability each only have a 36% chance of both landing (0.6 × 0.6). Add a third leg and that drops to roughly 22%. The vig also compounds on every leg, quietly widening the sportsbook's edge with each addition — which is why most long-term winning bettors use parlays sparingly and lean on single-game value instead.
